Bellarmine University has selected This I Believe as the 2013 Book-in-Common. Students will be asked to read this book and reflect upon the values and beliefs that guide their lives. This exploration of the true- self will begin at Knight LIFE Orientation and continue throughout the first-year experience.
“The goal is not to persuade Americans to agree on the same beliefs. Rather, the hope is to encourage people to begin the much more difficult task of developing respect for beliefs different from their own.” – Dan Gediman, Executive Producer
This I Believe is based upon the 1950’s radio show, hosted by Edward R. Murrow. Well known and everyday citizens shared five minute stories of values and beliefs reaching millions of listeners.
A non-profit, This I Believe, Inc., was founded in 2004 as an organization that continues encouraging people of all ages to contribute to the legacy of reflecting, writing, and sharing beliefs world-wide.
More than 100,000 individuals have shared their beliefs through personal accounts and stories. These stories have aired on radio and podcasts and been printed in several volumes of books. Perhaps most importantly This I Believe has encouraged discussion, challenged thinking and developed a platform through which sharing may occur.
